About Us

The GCC serves as the voice of principled, subluxation-centered chiropractic in the state of Georgia and beyond. We have a long history of protecting and promoting chiropractic as the detection and correction of Vertebral Subluxation. We stand for removing barriers to providing all persons access to chiropractic allowing 100% expression of their innate potential for health, happiness and overall well-being.

OUR MISSION

The Georgia Council of Chiropractic is 100% committed to protecting, promoting and perpetuating ChiropracTIC to benefit Georgia's citizens and the ChiropracTORS serving in Georgia.

Our mission is to profess and promote the ideals and principles of the founder of chiropractic, Dr. DD Palmer, the developer of chiropractic, Dr. BJ Palmer, and the defender of chiropractic and founder of the GCC, Dr. Sid E. Williams.

The GCC proclaims that detecting and correcting Vertebral Subluxations is a just and noble cause, which allows people to express 100% of their innate potential for health, happiness and overall well-being.

The GCC also notes that Chiropractic is not therapeutic, and should remain a non-therapeutic profession, which does not embrace a therapeutic approach to health and does not include the use of drugs or surgery.

The GCC recognizes the legal rights of all licensed Doctors of Chiropractic to practice within the legal parameters of their state law. We welcome as members all, regardless of practice style, who understand and respect the ideals as set forth by the GCC.

OUR HISTORY

Proud to be GCC

GCC held its 30th annual convention in 2011 with special guests Drs Sid and Nell Williams who were the first inductees to GCC’s Hall of Fame. In addition to Drs Williams, all past Presidents and past Chiropractor of the Year recipients were also inducted into the GCC Hall of Fame and each was given a medal. Dr DD Humber was awarded Lifetime membership and Dr Brian Lieberman was named Chiropractor of the Year.

The Early Years

The first meeting of the Georgia Council of Chiropractic was held on September 13, 1982 where Dr J.K. Humber was elected as the first President. Dr. Mildred Kimbrough was appointed the first Executive Director in 1987. In 1990, the GCC kicked off it’s first free philosophy night series. In 1991, Dr J.K. Humber was named GCC’s first Chiropractor of the Year.

Growth

The 1990s were a period of activity, excitement, and growth for the GCC and for chiropractic. As the profession celebrated chiropractic’s 100th birthday in 1995; GCC also celebrated at the 14th annual convention where Dr Brad Pizza was elected to his first term as GCC President, guest speakers were Drs Fred Barge, Gerald Clum, and James Sigafoose, and Dr Sid Williams was named Chiropractor of the Century. The second half of the decade saw GCC busy working on legislative issues such as travel to treat, very important to the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, as well as protecting the new chiropractic coding system from being used by any other profession. 1996 was also the year GCC entered the digital age with our first website.

Fellowship

The GCC held its first annual Chiropractic Day at the Capitol in February of 2000 followed by GCC’s first ever golf tournament in August of 2000 raising funds to form Chiropractors in Politics, GCC’s political action campaign. Spring conventions were held in Florida with multiple state organizations participating together. GCC philosophy nights continued to grow in popularity, and the GCC gained visibility around Life College with new office space on campus.

Excellence and Dedication

In 2005, Dr Brad Pizza was named GCC President for the second time. In 2007, the Governor signed the new scope bill, the product of a lengthy process of collaboration between GCC, GCA, and Life University. A ceremony was held with members of all three organizations signing unanimous agreement with the Foundational Tenets of Chiropractic. GCC celebrated its 25th anniversary at the Fall Convention with a special gala.

Where Success and the Principle Live

As the internet age evolved into social media frenzy, the GCC was hard at work bringing new ideas, new technology, new people, and new programs to help Georgia’s principled chiropractors achieve success in practice. In 2010, Dr Bobby Braile, former ICA President, was elected GCC President; and the Nuts & Bolts practice success workshop series began; GCC of course joined social media with a Facebook page; and Ms Katrine Frazier was hired as Executive Director. The first GCC CE Express Tour event was held in Augusta in 2012 with Savannah being added in 2013 and south Georgia in 2014. The GCC now brings CE courses all around the state with at least 5 events each year providing over 100 CE hours.

THE Future is Now

Much of the world is sitting in a holding pattern right now, still fearful of moving forward or waiting for permission to get back to normal; but the GCC did not take a break during the Covid-19 pandemic. We spent 2020 hard at work learning and communicating so that our protection of chiropractors' right to practice was uninterrupted. We partnered with experts such as Drs Matt McCoy, John Davila, and Ty Talcott to bring you everything you needed to navigate changes that were happening quickly. We adapted, and planned carefully, and did not have to cancel any CE events or the Chiro Cup Golf tournament. We brought all of our usual in person CE programs, plus live stream and online options so everyone had what they needed. Our activities and communications often served as a model that other states followed.

Now, GCC has an exciting calendar of education, fellowship, legislative, and fundraising activities scheduled. We have new members onboarding, and members interested in getting more involved. Several GCC leaders and our Executive Director have joined together with other like-minded subluxation-centered state organization leaders in founding the Global Chiropractic Coalition. GCC is no longer just the voice of principled chiropractic in Georgia, but is also a driving voice of the profession for the future. We are proudly moving forward with passion for the principle of chiropracTIC!
